Let It Roll Off Your Shoulder
Remember, as a kid, being on the playground and then hearing someone yell, “I’m the rubber you’re the glue whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you.” 🌴 It was the ultimate comeback when someone would say something mean or offensive to you.
It was a child’s way of saying, “You’re projecting how you feel about yourself towards me, but I’m 👏🏽 not 👏🏽here 👏🏽for 👏🏽it👏🏽.
You can keep that because I know it doesn’t apply to me.”
Today, such words would be deemed corny. However, this and other such phrases like “sticks and stones may hurt my bones, but words will never hurt me,” were basically childhood affirmations we used as self-empowerment against malicious people who did everything in their power to make us feel worthless, devalued, and insecure.
We understand, as adults, the impact of consistent abusive language. It can erode your sense of self-worth like acid or lye eroding flesh and bone. But if you want to preserve something so that it lasts for an extended period of time, you can “salt” it. 💭
In this case, you want to shield yourself against such attacks so that they are not hurtful and harmful to you. You want to possess the ability to allow the words to roll off your shoulder with little to no impact. But how do you do that? 🤔
Naturally, we say you need to have “thick skin.” But we know all too well that it’s not really thick skin that does the job. That’s just a saying we use to imply that we are less impacted by another’s words or actions.
What we have or need is truly the Armor of God.
Let Me Introduce You To My Armor
⛑️The Helmet of Salvation that protects my mind. I belong to God and know this wholeheartedly. As one who was created by THE CREATOR of ALL things, the King of kings and Lord of lords, I know my place in his kingdom; thus, I am secure in my identity in him, and you cannot convince me otherwise.
How do I know? I am happy you asked.
Because I am girded with the Belt of Truth. I am convinced about who God is because I have been taught about him and his word, and I continue to learn and study for myself. I am continuously developing and growing in my personal relationship with Him every day. ✝️
How do I do this? Great question!
By using my Sword of The Spirit, ⚔️ which is God’s unchanging word. I do not rely on my own understanding, emotions, and feelings about everything because I am truly a fleshly being. I have to learn to live, relying on God’s Word to guide me. I seek him for wisdom and understanding when approaching situations and circumstances because if I do not, then as I encounter hurt people who may sometimes do ruthless things, then I may become just like them. 🚫
This is tough, but because I am girded with the Breastplate of Righteousness, it helps me on the journey as God continues to shield my heart. 💖
With all of this, I walk upright with my Shield of Faith 🛡️, knowing that no weapon formed against me shall ever prosper. God has been faithful to me. I have witnessed who He has been in my life; therefore, I am prepared to face whatever comes my way, for I know He is with me.
This is why I walk every day in peace 🕊️, persevering through everything that comes my way. I continue to share the Gospel of Jesus as I live and breathe, hoping to inspire others to do the same.
It’s not always easy, but the peace I have, live and breathe, is worth it all.
We take for granted the little things we said and did as kids, but those little things matter much in the big picture of things.
They are little life lessons we learned to help us grow. As we mature and develop relationships, we are more open to healthy relationships with others if we start with healthy foundational relationships with God and ourselves. First, knowing who He is, then understanding who we are in Him, and finally, knowing that no one and nothing can change that unless we give them the power to do so.
After all, I’m the rubber, you’re the glue, and whatever you say rolls off me and sticks to you. 😉
Have a Blessed Day! 🙏🏾
